Using the middle mouse button to move around the map is also quite bad.

nb. I have far plane clip mode disabled, due to it being impossible to use on an AMD gpu.

Nuking the DR config folder from the "C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Roaming" does not fixe it. I have been swapping between 2.9 & 2.8 and was using 2.8 and didn't realize it.

Reopening as I have been flicking between 2.8 and 2.9pre2 to see if I could get to the bottom of this. While hiding layers helps, the 3D renderer in 2.9 makes DR feel like I have downgraded my graphics card to some generic pos.

Just in case something was tweaked, testing 2.9pre3, issue is the same.

Only fired up the profiler a bit, and of course the performance is horrible since the map is huge. I couldn't spot anything in the Orthoview renderer that had been introduced just recently (since 2.8.0), so I won't do much now. For the moment being, I'll put that on the huge pile of issues tagged with "DR renderer sucks".

In DR 3.0 and previous versions, if I look around (up/down, left/right, etc) in orthoview (with all of the map in-view) for serveral seconds, eventually the lag goes away. So am guessing its caching something and ones this i done its all butter smooth after that.

That's how it works, it is loading and preparing the render data when it comes into view, after that it should all go smoothly.
