Summary0002007: Ambient slider in game menu doesn't seem to work
Description I suppose the ingame 'ambient' slider is for adjusting music seperately from SFX sounds (ie:footsteps/voices).

 If so something is broken.

If I adjust that slider from 0-10 nothing happens even after restart.

But if SFX slider is adjusted music does change, although at 0 music can be heard and all other SFX are silent.
Additional Information DarkMod vers 1.0

Adjusting my sound card volume via creative sound panel (X-Fi gamer extreme) was the only way to adjust overall sound to get a good balance between footsteps/music.

Requires leaving game and restarting several times to tweak.

Other people have have noticed weird sound (too high or low) in Patently Dangerous also.

Any chance this is tied to the location system? I know PD was using that for ambient sound.

That slider is definitely behaving strange. If I adjust it, I get almost inaudible music, but afte a while (leaving a zone?) it gets way too loud again. Could really be tied to the location settings.

Messing with sound again. Playing Living_expenses last night and I walk out of stairway into second floor and BAM I'm deafened by mansion_outside.ogg.

Sound levels in game are 5 for SFX slider, 0 for ambient.

I tried adjusting my soundcard volume (creative x-fi gamer) through it's control panel (which helped on Vista32bit) but didn't do anything now (W764bit).
I uninstalled the card, reinstalled onboard sound (realtek 7.1) and still have the same issue.

I opened the mission in DR and it does in fact use sound locations. This sound location was set to volume -50. I deleted that volume, recompiled and tried it out, still same loud music, so loud it drowns out doors, footsteaps, guard voices.

I adjusted sound shaders for that noise all to -60, -50, -40 but none of them helped (this before and after recompile with no volume override).

So I do know that the ambient slider has no effect, on 0 sounds are still deafening and I can hear all sounds. SFX slider does quite music, but also quites other sounds in relation so I still can't hear them when music plays.

It could be a sound_location issue also, as changing those volume in shaders/sound entities doesn't effect them as far as I can tell.

I wish I could help out more but nothing I have tried has worked, or been consistant between vista/w7. I didn't even have luck quiteing the sound shaders (the ambient sounds have no volumes on them btw)

Just wanted to add that the slider works fine for me in maps that don't use the location system.

The location system script has been fixed to monitor that slider and normalize it's value to adjust the ambient played via the location speaker.

Needs testing in test/trigger_messages.map and then can be closed.
