Summary | 0002832: Downgrade vocal encoding?
Description | "On my old machine with 1.5 GB of RAM, I re-encoded all of the vocals to 48 kbps/22 KHz to decrease RAM usage. This is how most games do it, because 44 KHz isn't much different than 22 when it comes to a human voice recording. If you look in the Doom 3 pack files, you see that their vocals are about 30 Kbps." This is worth looking at. No point in having bloat if there really is no difference, and maps that use lots of different vocals are loading literally thousands of .ogg files.

I looked into this and it only seems to shave 1/3 off the size of the set, at most. Since most of the vocal sets are less than 100MB each, I can't be bothered to try tracking down the original .wavs and reconverting them. Someone else is welcome to take this on if they like.
