Summary | 0004989: Player can use repeated jumping to climb up ladders faster
Description | This is basically an exploit as you get up a ladder very fast and without making any noise by repeatedly pressing jump when facing the ladder. Possibly fix: Test if view trace hits the ladder. If so, prevent jumping.

I managed to reproduce this issue in 2.05, so it's not new.
My proposed fix cannot work because the player could look up at the ceiling and still use this exploit. Another option could be to allow jumping, but disallow climbing afterwards for a brief duration, based on the reasoning that the thief has to ensure stability after a jump. |
|
How would that affect jumping onto ladders? (Especially given that 'ladders' here includes e.g. a vine patch spawned from a vine arrow.)
You would hold onto the climbable for a short duration when attaching to it and only after a brief pause, you are allowed to climb further up or down.
I can confirm this issue as I recently reproduced it in 2.12/64 #10651.
