Summary0006126: DR not remembering last exported/saved-to folder
DescriptionI think a windows update has done/broken something to my Windows 10 install, but on the offchance it isnt I thought I would log a tracker.

In a nutshell anytime I want to do an export or save-as DR after a fresh startup is always pointing to the windows documents folder(for me thatd D:\documents\), instead of the last folder I exported/saved too. DR will rembember, but only per session.

What's the exact order you're doing things?

I tried:
- Open DR
- Open a map from the recent list
- Hit "Save as..."
- This takes me to the folder the map has been saved in, which is what I'd expect

I'm on Windows 11 here, not sure if that even makes a difference. Usually applications can control the folder the dialog is showing.

When I try:

On a fresh start of windows and DR I tried:
- Open DR
- Open a map from the recent list
- Hit "Save as..."
- This takes me to the default documents folder (in my case D:\documents), not any folder inside the darkmod folder.

However once I have save or exported to a given folder location DR will remember that, untill I reboot windows....

As I said I think a windows update I installed just before DR 3.4.0 got installed 'might' be causing the issue. Some programs are not effected (paint.net, audacity), but others (Gimp) are like DR, always defaulting to the Documents folder. So at a guess DR like some other programs is/are using a windows function for file save dialogue..?

I'm using a wxWidgets interface, that is in turn using a default dialog provided by Windows. If other applications are showing the same weird behaviour, then I'm pretty sure it's not a DR thing I can fix.

Do you have any add-ons or tools installed that might interfere?

"wxWidgets interface, that is in turn using a default dialog provided by Windows" I figured that might be the case. But as I said not all programs are showing this behavour, so am gussing that those programe/s (paint.net) are NOT use the windows default dialogue (even though the dialogue looks like windows default)

Regarding what programs I have installed that 'might' be causing an issue, I wouldnt know where to start (see attached). However I did install visual Studio and a bunch of asocciated application while do some testing for Stagatilov.

I think I got to bottom of this, shock horror it was windows 10, again. In this instance it was "Storage sense" at some point I turned this pointless feature on and it was overriding where programs would cache their SaveAs locations - https://www.tenforums.com/tutorials/49050-enable-disable-changing-save-location-apps-windows-10-a.html

Just an update on this, it seems DR does need the user to save to a location after first use for it to cache that location.

So with that in mind if a mapper has a given project setup, so either manually via the file menu>game/project_setup or via the DR shortcut "C:\Program Files\DarkRadiant\DarkRadiant.exe" fs_game=fms/mymission", that DR will always open to that folder on first use?

I just tried and removed my entire DarkRadiant settings folder from AppData\Roaming, and DR is indeed defaulting to the maps/ folder, both when choosing "Open Map..." and "Save As...". They are both taking me to the maps/ folder in the FM I selected in the Project dialog.

Fair enough fella.

I just opened up DR from a custom shortcut ("C:\Program Files\DarkRadiant\DarkRadiant.exe" fs_game=fms/seeking), open the map, then went to Save the map and sure enough its opening to the documents folder (D:\Documents) instead of the project folder (G:\Darkmod\Fms|Seeking). Something in windows 10 is forcing DR (and other apps) to keep opening thier respective SaveAs dialoug popups to the default documents folder.

I guess close this tracker then mister.

So just for shits and giggles I nuked my entire Darkradiant folder from C:\users\<user>\AppData\Roaming\ and now DR is opening to the map folder like it supposed to... wtf..

So as you requested this last time I have attached a copy of those older files
