I might suggest that the end result be more vertically laid out instead of horizontally. Horizontal is the natural desktop layout, so it covers a large, proportional area of your workspace. If the dialog is more vertically designed, it can be easier set off to the side, while the map view stays visible. As a rough example, the surface properties dialog is pretty much vertical. The patch properties dialog is too horizontal, and hogs screen space. |

The new Surface Dialog is feature complete now. The cleanup and removal of the old code is a different task. |
