Summary0001312: ESC at purchase screen changes background sound (perhaps more?)
DescriptionAt the purchase screen, press ESC. The hum sound stops, and the main theme begins to play. This is unsettling, as now it is unclear whether that is the entire effect, or you are in some quasi-broken menu state where things might not work correctly anymore.

@Dave: on hold for a moment; it seems the user can't get out of the menus at all once a mission is started.

Closing this. The new functionality is that ESC does not clear them anymore, and instead a link click will do so.
