| Summary | 0001402: Crash on Save Restore, cause unkown, possibly noise maker arrow + searching Builder + rat? | ||||
| Description | Testing the release package, I just got a crash on save/restore. I don't know exactly what caused it, so here was the situation I was in: Had just gotten into combat with patrolling Builder guard, lost him by running down to "The Fleece" near the flat rocks and mantling over the low wall there, at which point he lost me. I did this a few times saving/restoring, it worked fine. The time there was a crash, I had also fired a noise arrow kind of near where the beggar was, and there wa a rat running by also. At this point I tried to reload (back to the same reload point I had reloaded successfully many times) and got a crash. Doom3 put up its BSOD with this error:
--------- Map Initialization --------- Map: saintlucia idRenderWorldLocal::InitFromMap: retaining existing map ------- Game Map Init SaveGame ------- Compiled 'D:\Doom3\saintlucia\maps\saintlucia.script': 8.6 ms ---------- Compile stats ---------- Memory usage: Strings: 39, 4656 bytes Statements: 20538, 410760 bytes Functions: 1157, 120516 bytes Variables: 77328 bytes Mem used: 1097008 bytes Static data: 2277552 bytes Allocated: 2795148 bytes Thread size: 7068 bytes 0 0 1024 768 Regenerated world, staticAllocCount = 0. --------- Game Map Shutdown ---------- -------------------------------------- Shutting down sound hardware idRenderSystem::Shutdown() Shutting down OpenGL subsystem ...wglMakeCurrent( NULL, NULL ): success ...deleting GL context: success ...releasing DC: success ...destroying window ...shutting down QGL ...unloading OpenGL DLL ------------ Game Shutdown ----------- --------- Game Map Shutdown ---------- -------------------------------------- Shutdown event system -------------------------------------- malloc failure for 13587161
It's weird in that the savegame didn't actually change between crash and no crash, it was only the act of firing the noisemaker before restoring that same savegame that seems to have caused the crash. | ||||

This is actually a memory allocation error which crops up on various occasions, almost always including after dmapping and mapping large projects. I think it's a problem with the D3 memory manager, but I'm not fully sure. In any case, this is not a problem with the AI or scripts. |
