Summary0001653: Grandfather clock pendulum pivot point and motion problems
DescriptionImage attached of the TDM grandfather clock pendulum at maximum swing. The pendulum on a real grandfather clock behaves nothing like this. The pivot point appears to be at or even slightly below the highest point on the pendulum. Also the period is very small, the pendulum swinging far too rapidly. In truth the arm is too short to facilitate a proper swing unless the pivot can be moved above and beyond the arm, perhaps as far as the location of the green dot.

The pendulum should swing slowly, and at very shallow angles, not quickly and at such drastic angle. Real world example:

Someone who cares is welcome to change the material file to slow it down.

That's of course implied by the creation of a tracker entry. One creates an entry based on some problem, and so it is recorded and becomes a "known issue" so that it might one day be revisited. Or not. But at least it is recorded and established. The alternative is not tracking issues which are found, which of course accomplishes nothing.

To get back on topic: it's more than just a slowing down; the pendulum length is too short to facilitate proper motion.

I guess I should clarify.

1. I made the pendulum in question.

2. I can't imagine ever being motivated to go back and work on it further so that it looks closer to a "real grandfather clock."

3. If someone else cares enough about it, they are welcome to modify the material, image, and/or table in question.
