Summary0000202: Desktop flickering on shutdown
DescriptionThis might be a throw-away entry, if it's one of those things no one sees but me. But I get this pretty reliably, so hopefully someone else out there sees it.

-Fire up DR and use it. Use it some more. Make it eat up memory and work hard for a while (or maybe just load all textures). The goal is to make it have some cleanup to do when you shut it down.
-Shut down DR.

At this point, if my demand on DR was high enough (note I have only 768MB RAM), I will see the following behavior:

-The parent frame and all windows except for the main ortho view will close.
-The main ortho view will linger, completely grey, for anywhere from 1 second (quick shutdown, no cleanup) to 30 seconds or more (the harsh conditions above).
-Every icon on my desktop will flash and refresh many times a second for the entire time the ortho view is still up.

My guess is (and it really is just a guess), that since the main window has closed, but one of its child windows is still up (or maybe it's not a true child), it is trying to constantly refresh/redraw the view until that final window is closed. So for the entire time it is thrashing and cleaning up and closing, there is debilitated operation (due to heavy windoze swapping) and a window remaining which can't yet close.

I don't know if this would go away without the trace window, but I suppose that's possible too. Hopefully at least people see the remaining ortho view, even if not the flickering?

This is the sort of thing that is probably hard to replicate, but it might be good practice to have the application close all child windows first before it shuts down.

I'm uploading a new build to FTP now (will be up in 3 min.), can you check if the problem persists?

So far, seems to have worked! I loaded every TDM texture into the Texture tab (ouch..) and then shut down to no flickering. Let's mark this resolved, and that'll remind me to keep an eye on it for a few days before closing.

Can't close this yet. I'm still unable to shutdown after loading the bonehoard - must kill the process each time.

Need to sync up to get current bonehoard and try then.

The bonehoard hasn't been uploaded in a while. Please try to delete the "target" key entirely, it's pointing to a non-existent speaker anyway, iirc. Or we wait till angua uploads a new version.
