Summary0003545: Arrow treats sky like a hard surface
DescriptionArrows colliding with the sky should disappear. Currently they act like they hit a hard surface. Broadheads and rope arrows break, gas and water disperse their stims, a fire arrow explodes, and a moss arrow rains moss patches from heaven.

Needs to be tested with the skyportal texture or other sky textures. This report is for arrows hitting caulk that's set up to be the sky.

This could be as simple as adding 'noimpact' to the definition of caulk in tdm_internal_engine.mtr.

All the sky textures are marked this way.

A surface painted with a 'noimpact' texture will remove the projectile from the game.

The question is, however, whether making caulk eat projectiles is going to adversely affect existing missions.

Ok will test with the skyportal texture or other sky textures. This report is for arrows hitting caulk that's set up to be the sky and report back.

This needs to be checked.

Do we actually have the caulk material ever used by map entities?

Caulk can appear on brushes used in func_statics. They are typically on faces the player will never see.

There is a suggestion above to add something to the caulk material but I'm confused if caulk ever reaches the TDM code or gets filtered out somewhere in DR/dmap

"The question is, however, whether making caulk eat projectiles is going to adversely affect existing missions."

I can't imagine a scenario where it would be important to a mission that arrows impact on caulk surface.

Just for the argument sake, which mission uses caulk for sky?

Lots.

Braeden Church is a recent mission that uses it. Just look up at the starting point.

Looking at idProjectile::Collide noimpact should do the job?
