Description | In A New Job, the level of detail on buildings and light poles shift notably and abruptly when player approaches. * On the roof where creeping up on the guards who are talking below (-309.98 -533.8 406.42 33.8 105.1 0.0), moving closer will exhibit odd effects on ** light pole ** large wooden gate (hinges appear) ** wall behind guard * Stand in front of guard outside tavern, look east (977.51 -1064.72 64.25 -2.0 -163.3 0.0), moving closer will exhibit odd effects on ** light pole ** wooden supporter near metal pipe (its shadow disappears, while it would seem more intuitive that shadows and shadow details increased on approach) ** wall behind light pole It looks as if their textures are abruptly replaced on approach. Value for "Object details (LOD)" was set to "Normal", when changing value to High the issue with abruptly shifting details almost disappeared. The wooden supporter missing a shadow remains, but that may be due to a defect in the model. This defect is present in TDM 2.11 and TDM 2.12/64 #10584 (beta212-01). | ||||

I'm not fond of LOD levels at all due to how ugly the model switches is. There is an idea to implement LOD switch with dithered transparency, which would make switches more smooth. As for now, I don't think this will be changed. I think Springheel tweaked it to his taste when he made the architecture modules (and New Job map). |
