DescriptionMy less-than-technical-enough understanding of the discussion is that, although DR currently supports DDS textures, it doesn't make use of the advantages (memory requirements and thus performance) they afford. It sounds like that may change. (If any of this interpretation is wrong please feel free to correct description, summary, etc.)
